Notes:

On 1 July 2016, the Federal Act on the Freezing and the Restitution of Illicit Assets held by Foreign Politically Exposed Persons entered into force. The new law regulates the freezing, confiscation and restitution of illicitly acquired assets of foreign politically exposed persons and their close associates. It also provides for measures to help states where the illicitly acquired assets originated in their efforts to recover those assets. In the event that the mutual legal assistance process does not succeed, the law allows the Swiss Government to instigate administrative confiscation proceedings which opens the way for returning the assets to the state of origin.
