The General Prosecutor Office in Russia has reported on large sums of assets alleged to be the proceeds of crime being recovered. Specifically, 65 requests for legal assistance in criminal cases related to the identification and seizure of property obtained by criminal means were sent to the competent authorities of foreign states, mainly to Latvia, Estonia, Cyprus and Switzerland. 39 of them were executed, which is almost twice more than in the last half of the year. According to our inquiries, over $ 350 million, as well as 18 real estate objects, remain under arrest in the accounts of foreign banks. Some of these proceeds come from corruption related crimes, such as Embezzlement and Bribery. Russia is also a party to the Council of Europe Convention on Laundering, Search, Seizure and Confiscation of the Proceeds from Crime and on the Financing of Terrorism, which has clear guidance on confiscation and recovery of assets. In chapters III and IV of the Convention, there are rule on confiscation both at the national level and at the international cooperation level.
